The Dark Ages of Fantasy

The era had a lot of creativity, but the unrelenting gloom was a laziness on its own. I hit that problem a while ago. I’m not quite sure how to leave.

I’m trying to write fantasy where everything isn’t terrible but meaningless.

There’s a common thread in Severian the Torturer, Elric, and Corwin. They all do horrible things to others, but those things aren’t considered significant other than as they apply to the feelings of the main character. Other people matter in the real world, and Macbeth wasn’t a hero.
